- WINDOWS NT 3.1
- Windows NT 3.1 no support provided.
-
- WINDOWS NT 3.5
- The following information applies to systems with drives installed using the
- Dynamic Drive Overlay. No special steps are required if the Dynamic Drive
- Overlay was not required for your installation.
-
- Drives that are using the Dynamic Drive Overlay must be larger than 528MB and
- have 63 sectors per track.
-
- If you are using an IDE CD-ROM, it must be connected to a secondary controller
- and your IDE hard drive(s) connected to a primary controller.
-
- To install the updated driver on an existing Windows NT 3.5 system:
-
- If you are adding a drive to an existing system already running Windows NT
- 3.5, replace the ATDISK.SYS driver in the \WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS
- subdirectory with the one provided on the Disk Manager diskette.
-
-
- There are three ways to install Windows NT 3.5 on a drive installed by Disk
- Manager.
-
- To install Window NT 3.5 from diskette or CD-ROM:
-
- To perform this installation you must install Windows NT on a FAT partition
- since you need to be able to access it from DOS.
-
- 1) Make a diskcopy of Setup Disk #3.
-
- 2) Replace ATDISK.SYS on the diskcopy of Setup Disk #3 with the updated
- ATDISK.SYS provided on the Disk Manager diskette.
-
- 3) Boot the system from the hard drive. As soon as the Dynamic
- Overlay banner appears press the SPACEBAR. Insert Setup Disk #1 and
- press the SPACEBAR to boot from it.
-
- 4) When the first phase of SETUP is complete you will be prompted to
- reboot. Do so. As soon as the Dynamic Drive Overlay banner appears
- press the SPACEBAR. Insert your DOS boot diskette and press the SPACEBAR
- to boot from it.
-
- 5) Replace ATDISK.SYS in the \WINNT35\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS subdirectory on the
- hard drive with the updated ATDISK.SYS provided on the Disk Manager diskette.
-
- 6) Reboot the system and complete the installation as directed by SETUP.
-
- DO NOT CONVERT YOUR SYSTEM PARTITION TO NTFS!
-
- See the notes below on using the Windows NT 3.5 Emergency Repair option.
-
-
- To install Windows NT 3.5 from DOS using WINNT.EXE:
-
- To perform this installation you must install Windows NT on a FAT partition
- since you need to be able to access it from DOS during the installation.
-
- You must have DOS access to the CD-ROM or a network directory containing
- the Windows NT 3.5 master files to perform this procedure. This process
- requires about 50MB of extra disk space.
-
- 1) Boot the system from the hard drive. If you need to boot to a diskette,
- press the SPACEBAR as soon as the Dynamic Drive Overlay banner
- appears. Insert a DOS boot diskette and press the SPACEBAR to boot from
- it.
-
- 2) Change to the \I386 directory on the CD-ROM or the network directory
- in which the Windows NT 3.5 master files are installed.
-
- 3) Run WINNT /B. This option will load Windows NT Setup to create temporary
- directories, $WIN_NT$.~LS and $WIN-NT$.~BT, on your hard drive and copy
- the necessary files to them.
-
- 4) After the file copy is finished you will be prompted to reboot. Do so.
- As soon as the Dynamic Drive Overlay appears press the SPACEBAR.
- Insert a DOS boot diskette and press the SPACEBAR to boot from it.
-
- 5) Replace the file ATDISK.SYS in the directories $WIN-NT$.~LS and
- $WIN-NT$.~BT with the updated ATDISK.SYS provided
- on the Disk Manager diskette.
-
- 6) Reboot the system and complete the installation as directed by SETUP.
-
- DO NOT CONVERT YOUR SYSTEM PARTITION TO NTFS!
-
- See the notes below on using the Windows NT Emergency Repair option.
-
-
- Windows NT 3.5 Emergency Repair option.
-
- If you have converted your Windows NT system partition to NTFS,DO NOT
- allow the Windows NT 3.5 Emergency Repair option to replace the updated
- ATDISK.SYS (see step 2 below). If this occurs or if that file is corrupted,
- you will need to reinstall Windows NT since you can no longer replace the
- file from DOS.
-
- If you installed Windows NT 3.5 using the updated ATDISK.SYS and need to
- use the Windows NT Emergency Repair option to correct problems, you must
- follow the guidelines below.
-
- 1) When you boot to the Windows NT Setup Disks to run the Emergency Repair,
- be sure you use the Setup Disk #3 with the updated ATDISK.SYS provided
- in the NT directory of the Disk Manager diskette. If you no longer
- have the modified Setup Disk #3 used to install the system, you will
- need to make one.
-
- 2) If you allow the Emergency Repair option to check and replace system
- files, it will detect that the ATDISK.SYS file has been changed and
- offer to replace it with the original. Do not replace this file.
- Replacing the file is of no value since your system requires the updated
- ATDISK.SYS.
-
- 3) When the Emergency Repair is complete you should manually replace the
- updated ATDISK.SYS file (in case it has been replaced or corrupted).
- Follow these steps to do so:
-
- - Reboot the system from the hard drive. As soon as the Dynamic
- Drive Overlay banner appears press the SPACEBAR. Insert a DOS boot
- diskette and press the SPACEBAR to boot from it.
-
- - Replace ATDISK.SYS in the \WINNT35\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS subdirectory on
- the hard drive with the updated ATDISK.SYS provided on the Disk
- Manager diskette.
-
- - Reboot the system. Windows NT should now load.
-
-
- WINDOWS NT 3.51
- Microsoft Windows NT version 3.51 provides support for drives installed with
- Disk Manager using the Dynamic Drive Overlay; however, these drives must be
- larger than 528MB and have 63 sectors per track.
-
-
- To install Windows NT 3.51 from diskette or CD-ROM:
-
- 1) Boot the system from the hard drive. As soon as the Dynamic Drive
- Overlay banner appears press the SPACEBAR. Insert the Windows NT 3.51
- Setup Disk #1 and press the SPACEBAR to boot it.
-
- 2) Continue the installation as directed by SETUP.
-
-
- To install Windows NT 3.51 from DOS using WINNT.EXE:
-
- You must have DOS access to the CD-ROM or a network directory containing
- the Windows NT 3.51 master files to perform this procedure. This process
- requires about 50MB of extra disk space.
-
- 1) Boot the system from the hard drive. If you need to boot to a diskette,
- press the SPACEBAR as soon as the Dynamic Drive Overlay banner
- appears. Insert a DOS boot diskette press the SPACEBAR to boot from it.
-
- 2) Complete the installation following the instructions in the Windows NT
- Installation Guide.
